Exmoor National Park

Visit Exmoor's picturesque friendly villages with good food pubs, Winsford, Exford, Wheddon Cross, Brompton Regis, Selworthy, Bossington, Allerford, Dunster, Dunster Castle, Lynton and Lynmouth is often called England's little Switzerland. Visit Porlock and Porlock Weir wander along Porlock Shingle Ridge and up to Hurlstone Point.

Dulverton is the charming southern gateway town leading in to Exmoor National Park is also where the film "The Land Girls" was made. Dulverton is a delightful small, friendly town and home to renowned several good food restaurants, intresting and unique shops.

Minehead is a bustling clean and affluent coastal resort overflowing with flowers during the summer months. Minehead has lots of good shops, restaurants, inns, a theatre, a links golf course and Butlins Holiday Park. The South West Coast Path wends it's way round Minehead Bay and then onto North Hill. Wonderful views can be enjoyed from North Hill and Grabbist.

Exmoor has six hundred miles of footpaths and bridleways for you to eplore. They criss cross acres of heather clad moorland, down deep wooded combes, over privatly owned farmland. Exmoor ponies and Exmoor red deer take a wildlife safari to see the red deer. www.exmoorponysociety.org.uk

Drive across the open moor to the 4 mile long Blue Flag rated beach of Woolacombe and Putsborough, Both are ideal for small children and surfers alike. Visit the unique Braunton Burrows. Walk the spectacular South West Coastal Path around Martinhoe, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. Go deep into unspoilt countryside to the market town of South Molton. Shop till you drop at the busy towns of Barnstaple or Taunton. Visit the National Trust properties of Dunster Castle, Knightshayes Court at Tiverton, Arlington Court at Barnstaple all of which have wonderful gardens as does the quite outstanding RHS garden at Rosemoor near Great Torrington. Many other lovely gardens, including Marwood near Barnstaple, the Lutyens garden of Hestercombe at Taunton, Docton Mill at Hartland and Tapley Court outside Bideford.

North Devon has been recognised as having the UK's first new-style UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
It is now an area of international importance because of its diversity and abundance of rare plants and human use from ancient times. There are six walks taking in Braunton Burrows and covering - marshes, dunes and the Taw and Torridge estuary.

The Exmoor Producers Association

Take home or buy online from Exmoor Producers. The EPA was set up in 1995 to actively promote the wide range of businesses that are producing goods in the greater Exmoor area. It has around 60 members, who make a wide variety of goods for sale. Members include artists, crafts people, food producers and miscellaneous businesses that are producing goods on and around Exmoor. Whilst many of these are selling to the tourist and resident markets through local outlets, others are selling nationally and overseas. www.exmoor-producers.co.uk

 

Take a boat trip, play golf at the links course in Minehead or on several golf courses in North Devon. Ride on a steam train at the or the famous cliff railway at Lynton & Lynmouth - , Ride the Tarka Trail, or on the back of a horse. Don't forget the lovely green and gentle Brendon hills. Go fishing and sailing on several different reservoirs. Wimbleball Lake also has a children's play area.

Or just stand still at the top of Dunkery Beacon for a 360 degree virtual tour - turn north and look out over the Bristol Channel and over o Wales, easterly the Quantocks Hills come in to view. On a clear day the outline of Dartmoor is in the west. Look south for extensive views of all of the land between Exmoor and the South coast, a more breathtaking view would be hard to find. Escape alone at dawn or dusk wander to the top of Dunkery Beacon to feel Exmoor's magic and understand why this natural Eden is a very special place.

Churches

Oare has an interesting church,Culbone Church for a wonderful setting in an inaccessible place... this ancient church is reputed to be the smallest in England. Selworthy church probably has the finest view in all of England. Stoke Pero is hidden away in a lovely moorland location. Dating from before 1242 St Dubricious at Porlock contains some fine monuments.
